Dedicated server...really !
A dedicated server is never a good option. if your internet presence requirements are to such a scale that you require a dedicated server then you will no doubt have the in house capabilities to provide your own server, anyone else will be perfectly served by a shared server. You list it high in your "Ideals" without considering the scale of website your viewer may require a successful website may be no more than 4 pages as long as the host has the bandwidth for your hits, having a dedicated server for such a thing would be beyond ludicrous ...Also it is generally accepted that your server location should be in the geographic area you wish to service for SE ranking not to mention reducing hops, by recommending a specific hosting company does not do justice for someone not in that geographical area as this will confuse the SE resulting in reduced ranking. also at time of writing, the recommended link is down...showing a lack of reliability.

This is a great list and shows that you put lots of time into preparing this. I imagine this is your checklist for the sites that you launch.

Really appreciate the effort and dedication. I have my "system" that I follow each time I launch a site and there is information here to incorporate into it.

Great list. I sure wish I could've found something like this when I was starting up...

I just have one peeve (really, more of a suggestion) regarding flash. Now, I am right there in the boat with you when you say flash is 99% bad for site navigation. It is. But, there are just those times when the use of flash on a front page (or group of pages) is great. And, better yet, there is a wonderful way to get around the "bad for navigation" part. Provide alternative pages for users to land on when they don't have flash enabled or are using a mobile device (yes, the iPhone). I've seen sites like this work very well without the loss of navigability.

Don't get me wrong... I try to avoid flash like the plague. But some clients (especially those who have used flash before) really don't want to lose it to jQuery or JavaScript.

Good list. You pretty much covered everything from niche selection, to domain name, keyword usage. Though it's a bit too much for someone that is just starting. But this is definitely very helpful for people that are already out there, and trying to figure out what is going wrong.

Hey - nice post, thanks. I used it to help construct a web build template/checklist for basic project management.

Something I've included is an ongoing section - including things like Upgrading, Backups, Content Management, Comment approval, use of Webmaster Tools to monitor/optimise performance, etc.

Not sure if you'd want to include this, but I find it really useful to work out what the ongoing strategy for the site is.

Thanks for putting this information together. It's a useful resource. (BTW, every time I see your picture I think of Eric from "Entourage". That's quite a resemblance -- at least in the photo!)
